Allergy Medications
Children with allergies may need medications to manage symptoms like sneezing, runny nose or itchy eyes. Antihistamines are commonly prescribed to help block the effects of allergens in the body.
While antihistimines can be effective, some children may experience drowsiness as a side effect. Newer antihistimies, such as loratidine (Claratin) or cetirizine (Zyrtec), are less likely to cause drowsiness and are safe to use in children.
Some commone allergy medications for children include:
-
Loratadine (Claritin): A non-drowsy antihistimine for relieving allergy symptoms.
-
Cetirizine (Zyrtec): Another non-drowsy antihistimine for treating allergic reactions.
