Cough and Cold Medications
NONE UNDER AGE 2.
When children catch a cold or develop a cough, it's natural to want to ease their discomfort with medication. However, over-the-counter cold medications are not always safe or effective for young children.
For children over the age of 2, saline nasal sprays and a humidifier may help relieve symptoms. Some common cough and cold medications for children over 2 include:
-
Dextromethorphan: A cough suppresant used to control dry coughs.
-
Dimetapp cough and cold: Helps with snot and cough.
-
Guaifenesin: An expecorant that helps loosen mucus in the chest, making it easier to cough up.
